HistoryEskimo name given to this stream by US@C&GS in 1949. It was the name of an Eskimo that once lived in the area, and the name came to be applied to the locality, in a "possessive" sense, because it was there that mailsleds from Barrow and Kotzebue generally met. The name may be of the same derivation as the name "Pitmegiak River."
