HistoryNamed August 9, 1826, by Captain Beechey (1831, v1,p269), Royal Navy (RN), who wrote, "a small cape, which I named Cape Beaufort, in compliment to Captain Beaufort [later Admiral Sir Francis, 1774-1857], the present hydrographer to the Admiralty." Beaufort is best known for this scale of wind velocities.
