Tlingit Indian name reported in 1900 as "Quat-a-hein Creek," probably from "x'eitah-hin," meaning "trout river," by Lieutenant Commander J. F. Moser, commander of U.S. Bureau of Fisheries (USBF) steamer Albatross.
