Heads in Canada at 653500N, 1402300W, and flows SW across the international boundary S of Indian Grave Mountain to the Yukon River, 35 mi upstream from the mouth of the Kandik River, 32 mi. NW of Eagle, Porcupine Plateau
Lieutenant Schwatka (1885, sheet 8), USA, first mapped this stream in 1883 using the Indian name "Tahkandik." Spurr (1898, pl. 38), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), spelled the name "Tahkandit," but the English name, reported as early as 1896 by F. C. Schrader, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), soon became fixed. The stream had some prominence from 1897 to 1898 because of a coal mine located near its mouth.
