History of Etivluk River

Eskimo name obtained by Ensign Howard, U.S. Navy (USN). on April 21, 1886, on his expedition from Fort Cosmos on the Kobuk River to Point Barrow (Stoney, 1900, p. 68). Lieutenant Stoney (p. 39) also appears to have been on this stream in December, 1885, but he did not give it a name. The name is spelled "E-tiv-lik" on a manuscript map done by an Eskimo about 1890.
