HistoryNamed in 1869 by Captain Raymond (1871, p. 22), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, for William Healey Dall, 1845-1927, who a few years earlier explored parts of the Yukon River with the Western Union Telegraph Expedition. Captain Raymond also reported the Indian name as "Notochargut," meaning "mouth of the Noto (River)."
