HistoryNamed for John Olds, 1850-1910, pioneer, Juneau miner, and hotel man. He went to Alaska from England in 1877 and did prospecting and mining around Wrangell and Sitka before going to Juneau in 1880 with the first group of miners to leave from Sitka (DeArmond, 1957, p. 33). The name "Olds Mountain" was published by W. J. Peters, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in 1902.
