Located on Mount Spurr in the Tordrillo Mountains in the Alaska Range, 63 km (39 mi) NW of Tyonek, Alaska Range.
Named by S R Capps and R H Sargent, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), (in Smith and others 1930, pl. 3) "when they discovered and mapped the crater-like peak in 1927."
