HistoryRussian word, "kryshka" meaning "cover," given in 1925 by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) because the island closes the entrance to Kritoi Basin. The descriptive name "Cone Island" was used for this island in 1924 by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) because of "its marked resemblance to an inverted cone, when seen from the northwestward."
