HistoryNamed in 1883 by W. H. Dall, US@C&GS; originally named "Necker Isles" by La Perouse on September 5, 1786 (Wagner, 1937, p. 475); in 1850 it was called "O(stro) va Yaichnyya," meaning "Egg Islands," by the Russian American Company.
