Egg Island and Little Egg Island were listed in the 1916 U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) Coast Pilot (p. 177); they were named Egg Islands by W. H. Dall, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), in 1872.
