History

Named in 1793 by Captain George Vancouver, Royal Navy (RN), "after Roderick Betton, a sailor who was badley wounded in a fight with the Indians August 12, 1793" (Wagner, 1937, p. 431). This name was werroneously published as "Beatons" on Captain Vancouver's chart.
