HistoryOriginally named Dalton Glacier by Russell (1891, p. 98) in honor of John Dalton, a miner and frontiersman. After Dalton was accused of murder, the feature was renamed for John Henry Turner, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), who spent three years in Alaska making surveys. Before 1900, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) used the name Duffield Glacier, for William Ward Duffield, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS).
