About

In the Coast Mountains, heads at 584100N, 1344500W trending NE to Battle Glacier, 2.5 mi NE of Horn Spire and 31 mi NNW of Juneau, Coast Mts.

History

Named by members of the Juneau Icefield Research Project in 1964 for Dr. Edwrd Thiel (1928-1961), glaciologist and geophysicist. He was chief seismologist with the Arctic Institute of North America, co-leader of the Fletcher Ice Shelf Traverse in Antarctica, chief scientist for Antarctic airborne geophysical operations, and assistant proffesor of geophysics at the University of Minnesota.
