HistoryNamed "Nunatak" by Israel Cook Russell (1892, p. 86), in 1891, because, from a distance, East and West Nunatak Glaciers had the appearance of a single glacier with a nunatak or rounded butte of bare rock rising through it. The glacier has retreated seven miles, completely uncovering the nunatak. To the northeast is East Ninatak Galier, the other arm is West Nunatak Glacier.
