May 17, 2022 - Mountaineering Fatality at Denali

Denali, Southeast Fork Kahiltna Glacier, Denali Base Camp,

A 43-year-old climber from Kanagawa, Japan, was climbing in traveling up the Kahiltna Glacier outside of basecamp towards Mount Hunter without ropes when he fell through a snow bridge. We've been told by people at basecamp at the time it was believed he was off rope for the purpose of photographing members of his team.

It is strongly urged do not leave basecamp or the airstrip off rope. If off rope in camp stick to the packed paths.
