HistoryKoyukuk Indian name obtained in 1885 by Lieutenant Allen (1887, p. 98), USA. The area on top of the bluff was a trading place of the Eskimos and Indians. Archdeacon Stuck (1917, p. 340) gave the name as "Nish-thla-tot-li."
