HistoryNamed by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1938 for Captain Mikhail Dmitrievich Tebenkov, director of the Russian American Company and Governor of Russian America between 1845 and 1850. He was responsible for the compilation of one of the early atlases of Alaska (1852) which has been used extensively in the preparation of this publication.
