Translation of Russian name published by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 25), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN) as (Mys) Kotel'noy, meaning Kettle Cape. The Aleut name is Utmak and may possibly be from the word utman, meaning in the midst of, according to R. H. Geoghegan.
