Historyname recorded in 1805 as "Gulls Point" by Lisianski (1814, map facing p. 169). published the name "M(ys) Chaichey," meaning "seagull cape," for this feature; Captain Tevenkov (1852, map 23) called it "M(ys) Govorushichiy" meaning "Kittiwake (gull) Cape." says "Chikie" is the Russian word for the Burgomaster gull (Larus glaucus).
