Name given in 1775 by Francisco Antonio Maurelle as "Cabo de San Bartolome," or "Cape of Saint Bartolomew," probably for Saint Bartholomew whose day is August 24. Named "Cape Adamson" by Captain Meares (1970, p326), RN, and "Cape Cheericoff" by Captain Lisianski (1814, map facing p221), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN).
