extends N from Ledge Point, at head of Nakat Bay, Coast Mts.
HistoryTlingit Indian name possibly derived from the word "Nakatse" meaning "fox" (Krause, 1956, p. 256). Lieutenant Commander Nichols, U.S. Navy (USN), writes in the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) Alaska Coast Pilot (1891, p. 79) "The body of water between Cape Fox and Tongass is sometimes called Nakat Inlet, but that name really applies only to the inlet proper," whose southern limit is at Ledge Point.
