History

On July 26, 1837, Dease and Simpson (Simpson, Thomas, 1843, p. 133), "conferred the name of Harrison Bay, in honour of the Deputy Governor (Hudson's Bay Company; Benjamin Harrison, Deputy Governor, 1835-1839) * * * whose attention had been so long sedulously directed to the moral and religious improvement of the natives of the Indian country * * *."
