HistoryFormer Eskimo village reported in 1942-44 as "Ounag-touli" and "Unagtuligmut," by Lieutenant L. A. Zagoskin, Imperial Russian Navy (IRN). In the 1880 Census, Ivan Petroff listed "Oonakhtolik," population 15. The name is now applied to a placer mine several miles upstream.
