Eskimo village name reported to mean "the bay"; recorded in 1842-44 by or . L. A. Zagoskin, Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), as "Tachik ili Agakhlyak," meaning "Tachik" or "Agakhlyak." In 1842 Zagoskin recorded a population of 19 Eskimos in 3 houses. The 1880 Census lists "Tachik," population included in that of Saint Michael.
