Eskimo name reported in Russian by Lieutenant L. A. Zagoskin, Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), 1842-44, as "R(eka) Talgaksyuak" and "R(eka) Talgiksyuak." Captain C. W. Raymond, USA, shows "Talbiksokh" on his 1869 map. This name was simplified by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1895 to "Talbiksok." 1951 U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) field survey calls the feature "Tagalaviksak Slough."
