History of Pargon River

Local name derived from the Eskimo standardized in 1910 by Board on Geographic Names (BGN) on the basis of local use. Reported as "Papin" in 1899 by Schrader and Brooks (1900, map 3), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The variant names were used on subsequent mining and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) maps.
