History of Oskawalik River

Eskimo name spelled "Oskawalit" on 1898 field sheet by W. S. Post, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), with the note "obtained from A. Lind, a trader." U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported the present spelling in 1945 and gave the meaning as "shoe-string or thong."
