About

Heading in the Schwatka Mountains at Shishakshinovik Pass, flowing N to the Noatak River, 40 mi. SE of Howard Pass, Brooks Range. 19 miles long.

History

Eskimo name meaning "sheep raising place," derived from "imnaik" ("imnak", meaning "cliff"), the name for the Dallsheep, (Ovis dalli dalli); shown on 1911 fieldsheet by C. E. Giffin, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
