History

Indian name reported in 1914 as "Chalchitna" by R. H. Sargent, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), who obtained it from Thomas Hanmore, U.S. Commissioner at Iliamna. The name was published by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), however, as "Chilchitna."
