extends E between Ayiyak and Chandler Rivers, 47.5 mi. NW of Anaktuvuk Pass, Arctic Slope. 20 miles long.
So named by a U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) geology party in 1945 "because of the mesa's peculiar manner of weathering into boxlike blocks that from a distance resemble hatboxes."
