The range extends 65 miles between Hulahula and Kongakut Rivers, Brooks Range.
HistoryOn August 3, 1826, Sir John Franklin wrote: "We * * * had now arrived opposite the commencement of another range, Which I named after the late Count Nicholas Romanzoff, Chancellor of the Russian Empire, as a tribute of respect to the memory of that distinguished patron and promoter of discovery and science." This range was believed by Franklin to extend west to the Canning River. Leffingwell (1919, p. 99) confined the term Romanzof Mountains "to a roughly circular area about 15 miles in diameter, between the headwaters of Jago and Hulahula Rivers." Baker (1906, p. 534), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), thought these are the mountains which P. W. Dease and Thomas Simpson in 1837 named "Pelly Mountains."
