History of Philip Smith Mountains

Named in 1950 by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) after Philip Sidney Smith (1877-1949), chief Alaska geologist of the Geological Survey from 1925 to 1946, and at one time the acting director of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
