Polar bears are the largest of all bear species and are the largest living land predators. They can weight up to 1,600 pounds and stand upright at at over 10 feet tall.
Their main source of food is generally seals, however the recent declines in summer Arctic sea ice is forcing some polar bears to hunt on land. Polar bears also gather around some of the Artic coastal villages to feed on the carcass of harvested whales. (A village will not harvest multiple whales in a year, the plural whales is intended as over time.)
Like most bear polar bears can run considerably fast reaching speeds up to 25 miles per hour.
