On the SE coast of Saint Lawrence Island 8 mi. SW of Northeast Cape, it is enclosed by a barrier, a point of which forms Apavawook Cape.
Eskimo name shown on map annotated by Lawrence Kulukhan, of Gambell, in 1944. meaning "mainland lake," obtained at Gambell in 1965.
