HistoryEskimo name meaning "big dry lake," obtained in 1956 at Anaktuvuk Pass by Orth. A 1924 field sheet by Gerald FitzGerald, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), shows "Scotty Lake," probably for George "Scotty" Clark, one of expedition's packers.
