HistoryIndian name obtained in 1958 by T. E. Taylor, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). This is the lake which Lieutenant Herron (1901, p. 49 and map), USA, named "Lake Hoyle." Inadequate mapping in this area led to misinterpretation of the topography and names were frequently misapplied in subsequent mapping. See Hoyle, Lake.
