Published in 1848 on Russian Hydrographic Dept. Chart 1396 as "Os(trov) Zarembo." Named for Captain Lieutenant Dionysius Fedorovich Zarembo who made surveys in this vicinity in 1834 and 1838. Captain George Vancouver, Royal Navy (RN), called it "Duke of York Island" in 1793.
