History

Noted as "a remarkable pear-shaped pinnacle rock" by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1947 Coast Pilot (v.2, p.331). Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 24), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), showed some rocks in this area called "Kekuri," meaning "pillars;" these appear on an 1882 U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) chart as "Pinnacles," and again on a 1953 U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) map as "The Pinnacles."
