History

Aleut name published by Lieutenant Sarichev (1826, map 3), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), and Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 28), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), as "O(strov) Tanaga," or "Tanaga Island." Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), as "Taniaga" and by Grewingk (1850, p. 230) as "Takawangha."
