History

Aleut name published as "O(strov) Tagachalugis," or "Tagachalugis Island" by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 28), which refers to the largest island. This and other long variants were shortened to "Tag Islands" by Board on Geographic Names (BGN) recommendation.
