on E coast of Nushagak Peninsula, W of Nichols Spit, 36 mi. SW of Dillingham, Bristol Bay Low.
Named in 1890 by U.S. Bureau of Fisheries (USBF) probably for Commander Henry Ezra Nichols, U.S. Navy (USN), of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) steamer Hassler, who wrote a revised edition of the 1891 Coast Pilot. A descriptive name "Ushki," meaning "Ears," was given by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 4), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN).
