History

So named in 1868 by George Davidson, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS). Name derived from nearby Zaikof Bay. This probably the "Punta de Puente" meaning "point of the bridge" in Spanish, given by Don Ignacio Arteaga about August 1, 1779 (Wagner, 1937, p. 487).
