History

This descriptive name given by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1939 "because of heavy tiderips encountered upon this point." The name "Southwest Ned" was applied by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) before the area had been surveyed.
