History

Named for Point Demarcation by Sir John Franklin on July 31, 1826, beacuse it is situated in longitude 141 degrees west, the boundary between British and Russian dominions on the northern coast of America. The area is a winter rendezvous of the Eskimo, who call it "Pataktak," reportedly meaning, "place where ducks fly low."
