History

Named by the Russian Hydrographic Dept. (1847, chart 1379) for Captain Feodor Petrovitch Lutke who, in command of the corvette Seniavine, named many features in the Aleutian Islands while on a voyage around the world in 1826-29, and published an account of the voyage in 1836 which was used quite extensively in the preparation of this dictionary. This point was called M(ys) Sivuchiy meaning "Sealion Cape" by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 26) and Cape Promontory by U.S. Bureau of Fisheries (USBF) in 1888.
