N point of entrance to Hallo Bay, on NE coast of Alaska Peninsula, in Katmai National Monument, 43 mi. NE of Mount Katmai, Aleutian Range


Native name published by Lieutenant Sarichev (1826, map 16), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), as "M(ys) Chiniatskiy," or "Cape Chiniat," and by the Russian-American Company as "M(ys) Chiniakskiy," or "Cape Chiniak," in 1849. The U.S. Navy Hydrographic Office in 1869 called this feature "Tuniak Point (Tchineyak);" it was later changed to "Cape Chiniak" by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS).
