HistoryNamed on June 12, 1778, by Captain Cook (1785, v.2,p.406), Royal Navy (RN), who reported "an elevated point, which obtained the name "Cape Barnabas," lying in the latitude of 5713. The Russian American Company published (a transliteration of ) the name in 1849 as "M(ys) Barnabas." Barnabas whose day is June 11.
