HistoryName published by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 24), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), as Mys Akhsit or Cape Akhsit. Father Veniaminov (1840, v. 1, p. 210) says that the ship Okenna was wrecked near here. Baker (1906, p. 87) states that the name is derived from the word Akeit which may have been an attempted rendering of the name of the ship.
