HistoryAccording to G. C. Martin, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the local name for this feature in 1904 was Bear Cove. Howaver, owing to the multiplicity of "bear" names throughout Alaska, Board on Geographic Names (BGN) renamed the bay using the Latin Ord for bear.
